Kid Reads

We are excited to announce a new opportunity to get involved at Children's Book World! We are accepting student book reviews for our new outreach, Kid Reads.

Kids can submit a review by filling out our Google form and we will display them in the store! Some may even be featured as a spotlight on our Instagram or added to our website below! Choose any book you like, any book that you think others should read too! And if you are having trouble picking, we will have suggested themes each month corresponding with our displays.

Submitting a review is easy! Fill out the Google form linked here. It's that simple! Keep in mind, these reviews are brief. While there is no minimum or maximum length, both the summary of the book and recommendation should be around 2-5 sentences each.

We look forward to hearing your wonderful reviews!

Look below to read some of the great reviews submitted already!

Aru Shah has lied her way through school.  Aru Shah has made a huge mistake.  And now Aru Shah has to save the world.  Stuffed to the brim with an amazing depiction of Indian mythology, Aru and her antics will make you want more!

Why I liked this book:

I liked this book because it’s cool to read about Indian mythology.  Although there are different versions to each tale (as with any myth), Roshani Chokshi really brings out the fun parts, the good-to-know parts, and the I-never-saw-this-coming parts.

Jameela Mirza wants to be a world-class journalist.  She already writes for her school newspaper, and proudly shows the articles to her father.  Then her dad takes a job overseas, her sister becomes dangerously sick, and her latest article agitates a new friend.  As these problems wrestle with Jam’s need to be a shining star, she asks herself: is she even suited to be a reporter?

Why I liked this book:

I liked this book because it shows the reality of what it can be like to have a family member be diagnosed with a serious disease.  It doesn’t sugarcoat the importance of journalist fidelity and how hard it can be to have a parent working far from home.

Zomorod Yousefzadeh is moving for the fourth time.  It’s the late 70’s, and she’s hoping to start anew.  But when a terrible event costs her father his job, she worries about the future, for herself, her country, and her family.

Why I liked this book:

I liked this book because it’s really relatable.  It can be hard to move and start at a new school, and Zomorod’s hilarious comments make it a great read.  The story includes real events and people and is a great representation of American history.

Paradise On Fire by Jewell Parker Rhodes is one of the best books I have ever read. The characters and depictions of real life events are so realistic! I really like the main character Adaugo, who's biggest fear is fire. She has nightmares of it almost every night.

Why I Liked this Book:

The reason of this is because of her trauma. In the beginning of the book, she gets sent to a wilderness camp for black city kids. She then meets many new friends, and lots of new challenges. I loved reading about how she faced even the toughest ones!

Ely, Age 11

I liked the book. It was good and it was funny. It was weird that he had to put broccoli on his neck. Also, when he could not eat for a day, that would be too hard. Then he had to do nothing and he lost.

Michelle, Age 11

When Milo went to the library to look for a book on a shelf, a book fell on his head. He looked at the cover and it said, "Be A Perfect Person In Just Three Days!" He wants to be a perfect person so he checked it out. He followed the instructions and when he was on the last day, he felt "human" again.

Raul, Age 11

I like the book because it was funny and it had weird sentences. Also it has a lot of twists. Also it has the funniest people in the book.

Sam and Isabella, Age 11

This book is about a boy who tries to become perfect in just three days. The author of the book he reads is names Dr. Silverfish. He gives him instructions on becoming perfect. We think it is funny and interesting to read. After you read this book, you might wonder if being perfect is the answer.
